In 1990 besloot de geliefde kunstschilder van het Modern Realisme, Poen de Wijs, een meeslepende serie werkstukken te starten met als centraal thema 'De Drie Gratiën'. Deze artistieke reis, die vele jaren in beslag zou nemen, begon op een wel heel onverwachte plek: een tramhalte. Daar zag Poen ooit drie jonge vrouwen innig gearmd met elkaar lopen, elk met hun eigen unieke achtergrond - een blonde vrouw, een Afrikaanse en een Aziatische.

Deze ontmoeting op de tramhalte liet een onuitwisbare indruk achter op de kunstenaar en diende als de vonk die zijn fascinatie voor het klassieke thema van 'De Drie Gratiën' ontstak.
