This artistic journey, spanning several years, began in a rather unexpected place: a tram stop. There, Poen once witnessed three young women walking arm in arm, each with their unique background - a blonde woman, an African, and an Asian.

This encounter at the tram stop left an indelible impression on the artist and served as the spark that ignited his fascination with the classical theme of 'The Three Graces.' Inspired by the diversity and harmony he observed at that moment, Poen de Wijs decided to delve deeper into this timeless subject.

To fully immerse himself in the theme, Poen not only studied existing paintings of 'The Three Graces' but also painted them before creating his interpretations. His dedication to this project is reflected in both paintings and watercolours, ultimately included in the prestigious Vijlbrief Collection.

REFLECTIE NAAR HET VERLEDEN
'Reflectie naar het verleden' gaf de kunstschilder Poen de Wijs aan deze (zevende) variant uit zijn serie schilderijen en gemaroufleerde  kunstwerken (olieverf gecombineerd met aquarel) over 'De Drie Gratiën'.

In 1990 besloot de geliefde kunstschilder van het Modern Realisme, Poen de Wijs, een meeslepende serie werkstukken te starten met als centraal thema 'De Drie Gratiën'. Deze artistieke reis, die vele jaren in beslag zou nemen, begon op een wel heel onverwachte plek: een tramhalte. Daar zag Poen ooit drie jonge vrouwen innig gearmd met elkaar lopen, elk met hun eigen unieke achtergrond - een blonde vrouw, een Afrikaanse en een Aziatische.

Deze ontmoeting op de tramhalte liet een onuitwisbare indruk achter op de kunstenaar en diende als de vonk die zijn fascinatie voor het klassieke thema van 'De Drie Gratiën' ontstak. Geïnspireerd door de diversiteit en harmonie die hij in dat moment waarnam, besloot Poen de Wijs zich verder te verdiepen in dit tijdloze onderwerp.

Om zich volledig onder te dompelen in het thema, begon Poen niet alleen de bestaande schilderijen van 'De Drie Gratiën' te bestuderen, maar schilderde deze ook, voordat hij aan zijn eigen interpretaties begon. Zijn toewijding aan dit project weerspiegelde zich in zowel schilderijen als aquarellen, die uiteindelijk zijn opgenomen in de prestigieuze Vijlbrief Collectie.
