Splendor of Cathédrale de Saint-Trophime in Arles, France, print 2

In the centre of Arles in Provence, France, lies the Cathédrale de Saint-Trophime, built between the 12th and 15th centuries. The sculptures at the front of this church are magnificent and rank among the finest examples of Romanesque sculptural art. The ravages of time have taken their toll, but many still appear in good condition. This photo reportage includes a series of pictures of the various sculptures, some of which are featured on my Master print page. The artist Vincent van Gogh, much like myself, was fascinated by this cathedral and wrote about it in one of his letters to Theo... It's always intriguing to discover the personal connections between artists and their sources of inspiration.

The Cathédrale de Saint-Trophime in Arles is truly a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture. Those sculptures at the front create a truly impressive spectacle. The fact that they have withstood the test of time attests to the durability of art and culture.

And then there's Vincent van Gogh, also inspired by this cathedral. His fascination with the building comes to life in his letters to Theo.

In het centrum van Arles in de Provence in Frankrijk ligt de Cathédrale de Saint-Trophime, gebouwd tussen de 12e en 15e eeuw. De sculpturen aan de voorzijde van deze kerk zijn schitterend en behoren tot de fraaiste van de Romaanse sculptuurkunst. De tand des tijds heeft een en ander aangetast, maar velen zien er nog goed uit. Het is altijd intrigerend om de persoonlijke connecties tussen kunstenaars en hun inspiratiebronnen te ontdekken.

De Cathédrale de Saint-Trophime in Arles is werkelijk een meesterwerk van Romaanse architectuur. Die sculpturen aan de voorzijde vormen echt een indrukwekkend schouwspel. Het feit dat ze de tand des tijds hebben doorstaan, getuigt van de duurzaamheid van kunst en cultuur.
