‘DE DRIE GRATIËN’
Poen de Wijs heeft geruime tijd gewerkt aan zijn collectie met het thema ‘de drie gratiën’. Hoe het idee voor deze uitgebreide collectie schilderijen, aquarellen en schetsen ooit ontstond, wordt uitvoerig in dit boek beschreven. Ook wordt ingegaan op het creatieve proces dat hieraan voorafging: het bestuderen en naschilderen van kunstwerken van Rubens, Botticelli en Boucher. Poen deed dit moeiteloos, zoals u aan de werkstukken in dit boek kunt zien. 

 Vrouwelijk schoon
Wie het volledige oeuvre van Poen de Wijs kent, weet dat het vrouwelijk schoon voor hem álles betekende. Een groot deel van zijn werk bestaat uit vrouwenlijk naakt. Sensueel, dat zeker, maar nooit erotisch of aanstootgevend. Verre van.

Nederlandse Playboy
Voor de Nederlandse Playboy maakte Poen allerlei aquarellen. Geen wonder dat Playboy ooit een uitvoerige coverstory over hem publiceerde. Als auteur van dit digitale boek durf ik te beweren dat Poen’s aquarellen, en vooral deze serie, behoort tot de beste die ooit met dit thema zijn gemaakt. Veel van het werk is bijna fotorealistisch. Wat Poen precies onder vrouwelijk schoon verstaat, legt hij ook gedetailleerd uit.

Zijn ‘drie gratiën’
Aan het eind van zijn leven vertelde hij mij nog iets moois… Hij beschreef ‘zijn drie gratiën’, de drie vrouwen met wie hij ooit trouwde: Margriet, Marion en Marleen. Dat ontroerde me…

‘THE THREE GRACES’
Poen de Wijs has worked for a considerable time on his collection themed ’the Three Graces.’ This digital book extensively describes how the idea for this extensive collection of paintings, watercolours, and sketches came to be. It also delves into the creative process that preceded it: studying and reproducing artworks by Rubens, Botticelli, and Boucher. Poen did this effortlessly, as you can see in the artworks presented in this book.

Anyone familiar with the complete oeuvre of the Dutch painter of Modern Realism Poen de Wijs knows that female beauty meant everything to him. A large part of his art consists of female nudes. Sensual, certainly, but never erotic or offensive. Far from it. 

Dutch Playboy Magazine
For the Dutch Playboy, Poen created various watercolours. It’s no wonder that Playboy once published an extensive cover story about Poen and his work. As the author of this digital book, I dare to state that Poen’s watercolours, especially this series, belong to the best ever created on this theme. Much of the art is almost photo-realistic. Poen also explains in detail what he understands by female beauty.

His ’three graces’
At the end of his life, he shared something beautiful with me… He described ‘his Three Graces,’ the three women he married during his life: Margriet, Marion, and Marleen. That touched me…
